SECR Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) is a Government framework which aims to bring the benefits of carbon and energy reporting to more businesses. The reporting framework is intended to encourage the implementation of energy efficiency measures, with both economic and environmental benefits, supporting companies in cutting costs and improving productivity at the same time as reducing carbon emissions.

Complying with SECR?

Qualifying companies must report on their carbon emissions (e.g. energy use from electricity, gas and transport) and provide a commentary on any energy efficiency action undertaken in the past 12 month reporting period. Eligible companies must include SECR in their directors report, or similar section, in their annual report for all financial years starting on or after the 1stApril 2019.

While it is not necessary to employ the services of energy management experts, many organisations are likely to do so due to the time and complexity of the work involved
