Post Occupancy Evaluation

As the energy performance of buildings is now more closely monitored than ever before, it has become apparent that there can be a performance gap between predicted energy consumption and the actual energy consumption during occupancy.

This can mean that buildings consume significantly more energy in use than predicted at design stage and fail to provide occupants with a satisfactory environment to live or work in.

Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) can help to identify potential causes of this mismatch and propose solutions.

What is a Post Occupancy Evaluation?

The POE process assesses building performance through monitoring and feedback after a period of use (e.g. 6 or 12 months) to evaluate how the building is working in use. This can include technical assessment of the building services and fabric along with feedback from occupants how satisfied they are with the property, for example, in terms of running costs, operating heating systems, ventilation and overheating.
